BKKS National Koi Show 2019

Better late than never! Apologies it’s taken so long, it’s taken me a while to collate results from the show from customers along with photos of their award winning Koi.

The BKKS National Koi show is the UK’s largest outdoor koi show, and has been running for decades in various locations. Now based near Coventry it’s central location sees hobbyists from all over the country attend. Here is the benching matrix from the show, this is always handy to look at to analyse numbers of Koi in each size and class.

One the biggest prizes from the show that our customer took went to Jim Burrows for his magnificent Sanke. Taking Mature Champion, this is a first for us at Queni Koi. We’re over the moon for Jim.

This Sanke was purchased late 2014 by us on a visit to Oishi Koi Farm. Grown in the UK to just over 60cm, Jim bit the bullet and purchased it.

At last years show the Sanke placed 2nd in size 6 overall, right at the bottom of size 67/67cm from memory it did really well to place so highly, especially for a male! This year it went one step better and was awarded Mature Champion.

Here is how the Sanke developed while under our care, the last photo is when Jim decided the time was right to purchase him. Individual photo taken by Mark Gardner at the show when it took Mature Champion.

While the Sanke bagged Mature Champion, the majority of Jim’s other Koi did fantastically well too! Here are his full results.

Next on my list to congratulate is Andy Finch.

Size 1 is always a hotly contested size bracket, with 46 koi in the size it always takes something special to place in size overall. Andy managed to walk away with Best Size 1 with a beautiful little Izymiya Sanke. Stunning skin, beni and sumi placement. Very well done!

Sanke bred by Izumiya – Size 1 – Best in Size 1 (46 koi), 1st in Class and Size.

Following on from Andy’s 1st in size one, another customer of ours did well in Size 1 also. This time 2nd place Overall.

Well done to Paul Dolan who narrowly missed out on 1st place, it must have been a tough call between the Sanke above and Paul’s Kohaku. Bred by Tamaura, this little Kohaku was selected on our last trip to Japan. It also came 3rd at the International Junior Koi Show in Japan. Paul’s other awards with QK fish below also.

Congratulations to Emma-Jayne David and partner Phillip for being awarded 3rd in size Overall with a Tancho Showa from Hoshikin. Purchased as Tosai this Koi has developed seriously well. Not the fastest grower but the condition is stunnning. For a Tancho to get placed in it’s size is very good going. There were 75 Koi in Size 3, and this Koi was the 3rd best out the bunch!
